Kirsten Eats tells the story of all the hours I spend thinking, dreaming and researching food. My obsession is all encompassing and knows no boundaries. I love working out how to spin a classic or how to finesse a technique. I always love recreating adored takeaways for lazy days, entertaining with friends and spoiling family.
My Canadian and I live in our first home in beautiful, Auckland; I am constantly inspired by the diverse cultural landscape of this city. The gorgeous melting pot of cultures influence my cooking, the ingredients I use, and ultimately what appears on our table. I am inspired by the seasons; summer’s bounty and winter’s need for warmth and nourishment. Autumn’s colours and spring’s crisp hopefulness. I am constantly hungry for inspiration; regularly borrow stacks of cookbooks from the library to read and devour. Recommendations are welcome so please send them through.
As a proud Kiwi, I support as many local producers as possible. It is my firm belief that New Zealand produces some of the best food in the world and Kirsten Eats is just another way to showcase that. I am a big fan of using fresh, local, seasonal ingredients. Moderation must also exist in our food consumption; across the week as well as within the food groups. Thus the Canadian and I have no dietary restrictions. Organic meats and fresh seafood, vegetarian dinners and vegan lunches. Gluten free flours and dairy free alternatives sit next cheese and organic butter.
This is my world, through the dishes I eat and the dishes I create.
“Food is not just fuel. Food is about family, food is about community. And we nourish all of those things when we eat well.” Michael Pollen
